'I have worn lots of uniform': primary pupils on their first day of school

Children all around the UK are starting their new school and we went to see them before and after the big day at home

A rite of passage and an ever-popular social media share, the first day of school is an exciting and nerve-racking day for children and their parents alike.

We posted out a call out for people to get involved in our photographic project on the Guardian website and on social media, and then we went along to catch some of that excitement at the start of their days, and then we went back at the end of the day to find out how they got on.

I don’t know what I’m going to do at school because I’ve not gone to it yet

I have worn lots of uniform. I have a red jumper and a T-shirt and shorts and black socks

I wrote my name without any help for the first time
