'Disgrace': rising English homelessness includes 120,000 children

More than 82,000 households in insecure accommodation, a yearly rise of 5%, show figures

The number of homeless households in insecure accommodation in England has risen again, with more than 120,000 children in temporary homes, including bed and breakfast rooms and hostels, the latest official homelessness statistics show.

There were 82,310 households in temporary accommodation at the end of June 2018, up 5% on the previous year, and an increase of 71% since the previous low in December 2010. Over 2,500 families were put up in bed and breakfasts, and 3,740 in hostels and refuges.
